R&R Catering Hire Redevelopment Project

Over the past few months, I have been working closely with Bredon Web and Seligsoft to transform the website of successful local business, R&R Catering Hire Ltd of Andoversford in Gloucestershire.

I was tasked with producing a PHP version of their ASP website using as much of their current PHP development website as possible. The team agreed with a seamless WordPress-osCommerce symbiotic platform as it suited 80% of the brief ‘out of the box’.

This allowed me to meet the deadline for the back end in time for Seligsoft to produce the front end graphics using CSS.

The customer is able to choose from one of the ten categories R&R deemed minimum to suit their needs; China, Cutlery,Glass, Tableware, Linen, Furniture, General, Celebration Miscellaneous and Disposables.

Under each category are sub categories which, when clicked, take the customer to a list of all items which pertain to that category. Some items fall into more than one category, this functionality, as I learnt, comes with osCommerce. Some subcategories have few products and therefore a multiple category per page listing module had to be written.

The customer whilst viewing the product listings can fill in all the quantity’s and add the whole page of items with one click. This action takes them to a shopping cart page where they can either edit/update/delete the cart, place the order request or continue shopping from the main list of categories.

Whilst using the shopping cart, a running total lists in the right sidebar. A facility to add Delivery and Washing charges was also needed requiring modifications to the osCommerce order class. These charges are subject to change and I therefore had to make them configurable by the client from their administration panel.

No order can be sent without accepting the terms and conditions and the functionality was also added to checkout to update the cart totals from the checkout confirmation page if necessary.

We then made a few cosmetic tweaks and applied custom email templates as per the clients instructions and reconvened for the testing phase of the project.

After vigorous testing and w3c validation the website was released to the public in the middle of the night for the Christmas rush.

If you require a similar project, please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
